To Your Vehicle
Recently, in Toronto & the GTA, theives have been targeting high-end vehicles and using car dealerships to their advantage. Here's how it works...the thief will get your V.I.N. (Vehicle Identification Number located on the front dash on the driver's side of your vehicle) and then go to a vehicle dealership and claim to have lost the keys. The car dealership will make keys for the vehicle and they are not required by law to ask for identification or the ownership to the vehicle in question. The thief does not have to damage the vehicle to enter or drive it away. It is illegal to remove the plate on your front dash displaying your V.I.N. but it is not illegal to cover it up with a piece of tape or a card. Don't fall prey to this scheme and stay safe! Break-In To Steal High-End Vehicle Keys We have recently attended several calls where a home in a new development had been broken into. There were no signs of forced entry and when we disassembled the front door lock we found master pins in the lock. Master Pins allow more than one key to operate the lock. We surmise that a key was used to gain entry. When a builder develops a new community they usually have the front door of every house master keyed. The master key is given to their Contractors and Sub-Contractors to gain entry usually to most front doors in the new community. Developers have these locks master keyed so that they only have to keep track of a single key. Convenient for them but not so safe for the new homeowner. There are unscrupulous contractors and sub-contractors out there. When you purchase a home in a new development have your locks rekeyed by a Professional Locksmith and help keep your family and property safe.
